Honda Repair-a-thon going well

Platinum Motors, the dealers for Honda in Barbados, has started a repair drive to correct an issue with the airbags in their vehicles to ensure they are safe for drivers and passengers.

Platinum’s General Manager, Mark Hamilton, told Barbados TODAY that the company is currently running the repair-a-thon initiative and has so far had a remendous response from vehicle owners. The repair involves checking vehicles to see if there is a recall on the inflator in the airbag system.

“As people may be aware, a lot of manufacturers have had a recall over the last three or four years, due to the dangers of a particular manufactured airbag inflator which has actually caused death and injury.

“Although we have not had that issue in Barbados specifically, Honda has been very proactive as it relates to their programme around the world, in the replacement of these airbags, or the inflator for the airbag. So, in the Caribbean, there have been various repair-a-thon campaigns,” Hamilton explained.

The general manager said that while persons have been encouraged to bring in their vehicles between December 6 and 8, the campaign would be continued beyond those dates for persons who did not get to the garage in that period.

“It has been quite successful. We have had a steady volume of cars both yesterday and today. Our target is to do between 350 and 400 vehicles over the three days.

“We have been very proactive in that regard in terms of sending mail to every household in Barbados, we have advertised in the newspaper and we have had handouts and various banners around the island.

“It is very important that people do pay attention to this, because if the airbag goes off and it is one that is not functioning properly, there can be significant repercussions. We recommend people take advantage of it,” Hamilton said.

Thirteen Honda representatives from overseas, including administrators, and technicians, came to Barbados to lead the repair-a-thon process.
