Michael Jackson`s Caribbean-Born Doctor Charged

February 9, 2010

CaribWorldNews, LOS ANGELES, CA, Tues. Feb. 9, 2010: The Caribbean-born doctor to late King of Pop, Michael Joseph Jackson, was yesterday charged in a Los Angeles courthouse with  involuntary manslaughter in connection with the singer`s June 2009 death

Grenada-born Dr. Conrad Murray appeared at the courthouse to a rush of media while inside, members of the Jackson family were on hand to witness the arraignment.

Prosecutors filed a criminal complaint alleging Murray acted `unlawfully, and without malice [to] kill Michael Joseph Jackson` in administering the surgical anesthetic propofol and other tranquilizers to the singer.

The coroner`s report has indicated that Murray gave Jackson a dose of propofol sufficient for `major surgery` and that the pop singer died of `acute propofol intoxication.`

Murray pleaded not guilty and bail was set at $75,000 by Superior Court Judge Keith L. Schwartz and not the $300,000 that prosecutors sought. Yet the bail amount was three times greater than the bail usually set for such crimes. He was also ordered to surrender his passport, allowing him to travel within but not outside the United States. He was then taken into custody for booking.

If convicted of the involuntary-manslaughter charge, Dr. Murray could face a maximum jail sentence of four years.

Murray has insisted prior to the arraignment that he is innocent but admitted to investigators that he administered the sedatives to Jackson several times in the hours leading up to his death and eventually discovered that the singer was no longer breathing. MJ was pronounced dead at 2:26 p.m. PT on June 25, 2009.
